By:Manpreet Bola Descriptions/Pics Amethyst Python Feral Pig Plants Red-necked Crake Saltwater Crocodile Praying Mantis Soil Animals Location The soil in tropical rainforests is very nutrient poor. The only reason that so many plants grow in this area is because the plants store their own nutrition in themselves. The topsoil is only 2to 5 centimeters deep. When the plants die out, the new plants that grow in that place gets it’s nutrient’s from the dead plant’s “leftover’s”. The reason the soil is so infertile is because they are more than 100 million years old and almost every time it rains the minerals wash out from the soil.
There are some fertile patches of soil in the rainforest, but they are spread throughout the thick plants. The Daintree Rainforest is located in the north of Queensland, Australia. Its goes from Port Douglas to Cape York. The Daintree Rainforest is the 4th biggest in the world after The Amazon, the Congo, and the Valdivian Temperate. This rainforest covers an area of around 2,600 square kilometers. You could tell which biome the Daintree Rainforest is just by it's name. Its a "Rainforest". 1. Green Tree Frog

They are secondary consumers, meaning that a lot of animals depend on eating the green tree frogs. It's habitat is in swampy edges. The saltwater crocodile is a Carnivore like the green tree frog. It's size can go up to 6 meters! It is the largest crocodile in the world. It can weigh up to 1,000 pounds(lbs). It is a reptile meaning that it is cold-blooded and lays eggs. The average life span is 70 years (if living in the wild). This animal is also most likely to eat a human. In April 2007, a saltwater crocodile at a Taiwanese zoo bit and tore off a veterinarian forearm. After 7 hours of surgery the forearm was reattached. The red-necked crake is a waterbird. The population trend is unknown. Not only the population trend but the world does not know a lot about the red-necked crake. The red-necked crake can lay 3-5 dull white eggs at a time. The diet consists of amphibians. The call sounds of these birds are clicking sounds and soft grunts. The recorded length of the Amethyst Python is 8.5m(28ft).
How the snake got it's name: if you put the python under direct sunlight , in certain angles it turns the color of purple(amethyst). It's diet consists of fruit bats, possums, rats, pademelons, and ground dwelling birds. The habitat of the tropical rainforest and scrub rainforest. The females can lay up to 200 eggs in a year. The stinging tree plant is the most deadliest plant in the Daintree. It has the most potent. A severe sting has been known to kill humans, There is no antidote that can help the sting so visitors must be aware at ALL times. It is most common to be spotted on the side of roads and big clearings in the Atherton Tablelands. They live along the East coast of Australia. There are a few animals that are not affected by the sting so therefore they collect the leafs and fruit off this plant. The silicon hairs on this plant cause pain, because they carry a neurotoxin. A rainforest is a place that contains more than 50% of all species. It only covers about 6% of the world's surface. A rainforest can be described as a long , thick jungle. The reason a rainforest is called a rainforest is because of the high amount of rainfall annually. Another name for the feral pig is the wild boar. The feral pig is an omnivore for it eats both meat and fruits/plants/vegetable. They prefer thick covers of dense bushes and EASY to access water. The adult’s males go from 75kgs to 115 kgs. The reason feral pigs are not as famous and not very visited is because they carry A LOT of diseases that can do a lot of harm to the affected person. There life span is 15-20 years. They are pale grey to brown or black .They have tusks meaning they have long front teeth and like a lot of specie’s the males are the bigger ones. The daintree fan palm grow during the wet season. The palm can grow up to 6 meters. It can have a diameter up to 4 meters. They love muddy flodded areas. Another name for this plant is the copper creek. The leafs on this palm help protect the rainforest from the sun. They are found in allies. They are also found in the canopy (a layer in the rainforest.) The wild ginger is a great plant for dry shade. The wild ginger has soft edges so therefore it really helps to develop softer edges for other plants. The leafs are heart- shaped. The color is rich green.
