D-day invasion Tuesday, 6 June 1944 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified friench costline to fight natzi on the beaches of normandy, france no one knows how many died but lots died the D-day landings were designed to open up a second or western front agenst germany that would ease the pressure on the ussr in the east the storm of the beaches was known as operation overlord, Dwight Eisenhower was incharge of this operation and it became his task to organize combat troops for support services and people who wonder what the D stands for in D-day, it means day its just that the press thought the capital D would make it sound more interesting here are some pictures
