Fundamentals of Marching By Isabel, Megan, and David Vocab Time! Set- A command given to performers to get them to attention. Horns Up- A command given to put instruments UP in playing position A Brief History The marching band originated as traveling musicians who performed together at festivals and celebrations throughout the ancient world. It evolved into military bands. They followed the troops on the battlefield. It later evolved into ceremonial roles. When the band followed the troops, they would yell, "Left left, left right left". The drum beats made it easy to stay together and can be heard at a great distance.
