Transcript of I know why the caged bird sings

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings By: Maya Angelou Maya Angelou Poetic devices What I think the poem means Likes, Dislikes and Reason The free bird leaps
on the back of the win
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and is tune is heard
on the distant hill for the caged bird
sings of freedom The free bird thinks of another breeze
an the trade winds soft through the sighing
trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright
lawn
and he names the sky his own. But a caged bird stands on the grave of
dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom. Likes:
I liked the overall message that the poem has.
Dislikes:
I have no dislikes, I liked everything about the poem.
Reason why I picked this poem:
I picked this poem because I like Maya Angelou's poetry and this is a really nice poem.
Born April 4 1928
America's most visible black female autobiographer
Nominated for a National Book Award
Awarded over 30 honorary degrees
Nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her 1971 volume of poetry, Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Diiie.

It has a rhythm scheme of ABCB
Personification: "his shadows shout on a nightmare scream"
Symbolism: "caged bird" symbolizes being restricted from different opportunities
I think the point of this poem is to tell about how Angelou knows what its like to feel trapped. Also how it feels to go through many hardships. With this poem she is telling just how it feels to be restricted from things and learn how to dream but not being able to fulfill those dreams. This what she means by caged bird. Also it talks about how it feels to be free.
