The Telecommunications Milestones 1989
First license awarded to Bangladesh Telecom Limited (Later transferred to Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd. – Citycell). Initially with AMPS, then in 1999 introduced CDMA.
This license gave Citycell monopoly for 5years.
Citycell had only 7,900 Subscribers till 1996.
High price and very limited network coverage was the reason behind low penetration.
11 November, government awarded three GSM licenses to Private Sector to operate cellular mobile phone networks to GrameenPhone (GP), TMIB (Aktel) Ltd. and Sheba Telecom Ltd (now Banglalink).
National Telecom Policy 1998 formulated.
Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) made open.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Act 2001 enacted.
BTTB joined SEA-ME-WE-4 Submarine Cable Consortium. 2004
Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) Licensing – 10 Operators.
Licensing procedure regulation issued.
Interconnection Regulation 2004 was issued.
Mobile GSM license to Warid/Teletalk/Banglalink.
Amendment of interconnection regulation.
Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) Licensing – 5 Operators.
SEA ME WE 4 connectivity.
ILDTS policy issued.
Revision of Interconnection charge (lowered from Tk. 0.66 to 0.40).
Issued 4 Nation wide PSTN Licenses.
Licensing procedure regulation amended.

It is meant for a technology neutral/ technology agnostic framework. Why calling this as 3G license? Spectrum for this license Total 50 MHz spectrum from the spectrum band 2.1 GHz (1920 MHz -1970 MHz/2110 MHz-2160 MHz) will be auctioned for Cellular Mobile Phone Services (3G/4G/LTE) Operator License.
The 50 MHz of spectrum is available in 05 blocks of 10 + 10 (Uplink +Downlink) MHz each of 1920 MHz-1930MHz/2110MHz-2120MHz, 1930 MHz 1940MHz/2120MHz-2130MHz, 1940 MHz-1950MHz/2130MHz-2140MHz, 1950 MHz-1960MHz/2140MHz-2150MHz and 1960 MHz-1970MHz/2150MHz-2160MHz.
