Severus Snape, A Hero
Severus Snape from the Harry Potter Series is a hero
Snape is a hero due to the fact that he saves Harry, his life follows the hero's journey, and he is incredibly loyal.
The Sorcerer's Stone
"Yes..." said Dumbledore dreamily,"Funny, the way people's minds work, isn't it? Professor Snape couldn't bear being in your father's debt....I do believe he worked so hard to protect you this year because he felt that would make him and your father even. Then he could go back to hating your father's memory in peace....(Rowling)"
Hero's Journey
Call to adventure: Grew up in Muggle village Spinner's End
1971 started at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry
Threshold: Platform 9 3/4, Hogwarts Express
Revelation
Snape heard Professor Trelawney give the prophecy and realized it was about Harry, and more importantly Lily.
He came to Dumbledore and Dumbledore agreed to let him protect Lily. He tried hiding the Potter's and lied to Voldemort. After her death he vowed to protect Harry, who she had died for.
He became a double agent being part of the Order of the Phoenix but additionally a death eater who, upon Voldemort's return to power, became a double agent for Dumbledore.
His loyalty to Dumbledore lasted until his death. He even killed Dumbledore who asked him to because Dumbledore was already dying due to a horcrux.
Return
Severus remained loyal until death. On his death bed he gave Harry his memory of his life long love for Lily. He had spent all his time protecting Harry for Lily's sake.
"You know how and why she died. Make sure it was not in vain. Help me protect Lily's son."..."Very well. Very well. But never-never tell Dumbledore! This must be between us! Swear it! I cannot bear...especially Potter's son...I want your word!"
Challenges, temptations
Love for Lilly Evans however remained only a friend
James Potter, and the Marauders constantly tormented him
Drawn toward dark arts and pure-blood supremacists
Despite being in the Slug Club there were few hopes for Severus being successful
Loyalty
Because Severus vowed to protect Harry he spent the rest of his life fufilling his promise.
Despite hating Harry's father James he protected Harry.
He even killed Dumbledore because Dumbledore had begged for him to.
Snape is a hero
Because of his faithful devotion, protecting Harry and his life following the hero's journey Snape is in fact a hero.
