Taylor Swift Introduction Have you ever wondered what it would feel like if you were famous? Taylor Swift is one of the youngest and biggest hits in country and pop music. She is an inspiration to her fans, especially her youngest ones. Just a Regular Girl Taylor Swift was a regular girl from Pennsylvania. She was born on December 13th, 1989. She up in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. She lived on a Christmas tree farm. Her parents operated a Christmas tree farm in the Suburb of Reading. Her mom's name is Andrea Swift, who always goes with Taylor on her tours. Swift showed interest in music at a young age. She discovered country music when she was six. When she was a young girl she dreamed of being a country music singer. The kids at school criticized her interest in country music, but that did not stop her. She won the national poetry writing contest in elementary school. When she got a copy of Le Ann Rime's album Blue she fell in love. Then, she knew she wanted to be the next big country star. She was a natural at performing even when she was younger. She was involved with her community's theatre program. She started to perform in local events like county fairs, festivals, and karaoke contests. At a professional men’s basketball game, she was asked to sing the “Star Spangled Banner”. She taught herself how to play guitar. She wrote her first song after. She had a gift for songwriting. She loves to be on stage. But, she started high school at Hendersonville High. She fit - in and made friends quickly. She met her best friend, Abigail, in English class. Taylor wrote “Our Song” about her boyfriend for her school talent show. Her old friends didn’t want to be friends with her because they were jealous of her singing success. She was a very successful person even when she was younger. Career When Taylor Swift was still very young, she went looking for record deals. When she was 11, she visited Nashville looking for a record deal. Fortunately she did find one in Nashville. In 2001, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music. She caught the attention of a talent agent, Dan Dymtrow. Dan took her demo to Nashville, and RCA (a country music label in Nashville) offered her a developing deal. That meant that RCA would pay her to work on some songs and they might release an album for her. She was thrilled. RCA was based in Nashville and her family lived in Pennsylvania, so they packed their bags and moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee. She wasn’t such a big hit at RCA. The company wanted her to record music written by other people, but she wanted to write her own songs. After a year of working with RCA, she walked away from her record deal. Shortly after, she caught the attention of Scott Borchetta. Scott started his own music label a few months later called Big Machine Records. She was the first person to whom he offered a record deal. She went right to work on her new label. A record label is a trademark which works with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. Then, she went shopping for a new demo. A label called Sony/ ATV offered her a publishing deal as a house writer. House writing is when you can write songs at home. Her job at Sony was to write songs alone and with other writers. Sony/ATV At Sony/ATV she was the youngest songwriter they ever hired. She told songwriteruniverse.com, “I signed my publishing deal at age fourteen with Sony/ATV. I wrote tons of songs…” Between the ages of 14 and 16, she published 140 songs through Sony/ATV. Successful Albums Taylor Swift released quite a few successful albums. In 2006, she released a debut album: Taylor Swift. It eventually sold more than 3 million copies. The album hit #1 on the country charts. Liz and Taylor wrote “Tim McGraw” which was Taylor’s 1st big song. They decided that “Tim McGraw” would be her 1st single set to be released in June 2006. It was about Taylor’s, then boyfriend who was about to leave for college. Liz also helped her write several of her other songs. They wrote “Tear Drops on My Guitar” about a boy named Drew Hardwick that she had a crush on. They also wrote “Picture to Burn” about an arrogant boy who she almost dated. Country is a music that has been around for centuries. Country history officially began June 30th, 1922. Country music of the 1920’s is different from the music we know today. The majority of its instruments were string-band instruments. It mostly focused on the fiddle, but it also included: the banjo, mandolin, and assorted oddball, elements like the kazoo, bajo-uke, and the Jew’s harp. You usually hear the lonesome moans of the steel guitar. The songs deal with faithful dogs, loving mothers, shattered love, affairs, empty bottles, and little old log cabin in the lanes. Old time lyrics and melodies that are the foundation of early country music is often originated hundreds and 1,000 of years ago. Conclusion Taylor Swift is one of my favorite country singers of all time. She is an inspiration to me. I have all of her very successful albums except her very first one. I love to listen to her music because her lyrics have a meaning. I love Taylor Swift for who she is. - Dan Dymtrow - Scott Borchetta Marjorie Finlay Patsy Cline Dolly Parton Fiddle Banjo Mandolin Kazoo Banjo- Uke Jew's Harp Steel Guitar
