Public speaking is the process and act of speaking or giving a lecture to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain a listening audience.
Keep the message clear and concise, use examples
Practice, Practice, Practice
Visualize giving your speech
Relax and perform breathing exercises
View other successful speakers
Realize that people want you to succeed
Organized and Prepared
Varies tone and speed of voice
Uses examples to illustrate meaning
Values the audience needs and inputs
Has a sense of humour
Doing this small action (in private) before giving a speech or going to an interview has been proven to improve the appearance of confidence

Research your speech so you have the main points and understanding of the topic
Observe the audience’s reaction to your speech
Use cue cards for key points, facts or information that is difficult to remember
Can all participants please stand up and raise your arms and place your hands behind your head or on your hips. (this exercise can also be done in a chair) How does it feel? Empowering?

Many Jobs here require public speaking skills either when dealing with the public directly or through giving presentations to management or colleagues Examples: Sales Representative, Public Relations, Customer services and many more
Public speaking is considered a valuable transferable skill
The procedure of organizing a speech includes great skills such as planning, time management and use of language which can be transferred to other instances like essay writing or organizing fundraising events
Being able to speak clearly and concisely is very valuable when dealing with all levels of society
Canada places importance on individual contribution
