“Many technologies enable
us to receive information and communicate or exchange information with others". (Anderson, 2010)
What ICT is available in most schools?
Interactive whiteboard (IWB)
Computers / laptops (BYOD) with office software
Ipads/ tablets (recording, filming, internet)
Internet connection (google docs/ email)
To get students to start working collaboratively, an example of how to use an ICT such as an Interactive whiteboard (IWB) can be used to engage students. A snip it of a video below shows how a picture on the IWB can be used as a stimulus to promote collaboration between students. If you would like to watch the whole video please use this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ6KeSzJuPs
Another video that also Incorporates an IWB which you may wish to watch is linked: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K-HBUgfeA8
To get students to engage with the lesson content ICT's are a great way to do this. One example that could be used is the incorporation of IPads in the classroom. The video below is a small extract to show you how teachers and students are using IPads in the classroom. If you wish to watch the whole video please use this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYLirypK_Yo
To integrate the curriculum with the use of ICT's a useful website is Scootle. Scootle provides online resources that engage students with the curriculum content that's being taught.
Example Content description: Create literary texts that experiment with structures, ideas and stylistic features of selected authors (ACELT1798)

ICT in ELT- Where do you stand?
What's the problem?
Limited resources at the school
No school budget (priority) to upgrade/ buy apps, software, licences etc.
No time for training / not PD priority
Teachers' lacking proficiency with technology (how to...)
Find a note taking app on write down you could use Mobile-Learning in class.
Extension: Look at a page from your coursebook. What ICT could you use to make the lesson more engaging/ personalised?
Any ICT challenges in school or at home you have experienced or can think off?
What have you learned
