Erica Whittenberger March On Washington 1963 Musicians Mahalia Jackson We Shall Overcome Mahalia Jackson was a famous African American Gospel Singer. At the march she sang the Hymn "How I Got Over". The Hymn was inspired when some white men enraged when they saw the original artist Clara Ward in a Cadillac. Joan Baez She is an American Folk artist and Musician and a provident activist for Haman rights and peace. She saw the civil rights movement as a very important issue in America. At the March she preformed the song " We shall Overcome". When she preformed this song at the march, every time she was mentioned people thought of that song. Bob Dylan He was a famous white artist who is still around today he preformed the song "Only a Pawn in Their Game".
The song was about the assassination of Civil Rights activist Medgar Evers. We shall overcome became the anthem for the civil rights movement the song was inspired by a gospel tune.
