Fungi and water molds are good examples of convergent evolution which occurs when two organisms develop similar characteristics independently because of adaptions to similar environments Slime Molds and Water Molds What are Slime Molds? Plasmodial slime molds Whate are Cellular slime molds? Water Molds Characteristics of Watermold Definition single-celled
mass of cells called a slug, when they run out of food
Some of the cells then form a fruiting body, others form spores (Nester, 2011)
figure 12.15 on page 295 "super-amebas"
- can reach up to to 0.5 Meters in diameter
- widespread and visible to the naked eye in nature
- often brightly colored
- also in Figure 12.15 of the textbook

After germination of haploid spores, the cells fuse to form a diploid cell.
-this stage is called PLASMODIUM (Nester, 2011)
