I live in Verona with my husband and two children. This is my ninth year teaching.

I'm very happy to share that I love my job. I am committed to teaching and most importantly I am committed to helping your child learn and grow.

call
you at anytime, please send an email or note and I will call you as soon as I have a chance.
DROP OFF & PICK UP

This can be a hectic time of day. Your child knows they are not to leave me at the end of the day without first seeing their parent and then telling me. So far they are doing a wonderful job. Thank you for your patience and consideration of all students and JDA families at this
time of day.

Communication
is key to your childs success!
You can
expect
to hear from me often.
(Phone calls, email, or written notes)
Please be sure to read all notices sent home carefully.

Behavior chart
is used to help communicate daily behavior to home. Please review any comments, discuss with your child and sign weekly.
Thank you for coming!
Each child has been assigned a number. Please don't think I am being impersonal, it is strictly for classroom management purposes.

Please help out by reminding your child to add his or her number along with their name on all papers.
Birthdays are celebrated once a month with a class party. Snacks served during class parties must be store bought, commercially processed with ingredients on the side.
Generally homework is assigned every night Monday through Thursday.
Homework packets will be sent home on Monday. Each night your child is to complete
one

Math
page and
one
in
language arts
page.
Homework will be checked for completion each night, so please keep packet in homework folder. All work will be collected at the end of the week.
Your child should do their homework independently, but please give them the tools they need to be successful.
teach them how to stay organized
offer encouragement often
offer support when needed
If possible set up a homework area and give them a choice of when to do their homework. Whatever works!
don't let the grade define you
Each subject will receive a letter grade. The grade will be based on tests, quizzes, participation, homework and projects.

help them get organized
encourage your child to do his/her best and to check their work

Technology, Mathematics
& The Arts
Class cohesion
We work very hard to develop class cohesion in this room. Students are
expected
to be able to work with anyone of their peers.
We take the time to discuss and celebrate our similarities and differences and in turn learn to use each other as resources.
There are in place both classroom and school wide incentives to help keep our students motivated towards education and all that it encompasses.
surprise inspection
quarters for complements
brain breaks
rocket ship - reaching for a common goal
student of the week
attendance awards
social skills certificates
Class Dojo points

Attendance
A student must be in attendance at lease 171 day of the 180-day school year in order to be considered to have successfully completed the instructional program requirements. Therefore no more than 9 absences are allowed.

One of the greatest resources we offer is our time, please ensure your child doesn't miss one minute!

Why do I assign homework anyway?
To reinforce skills learned in school
To learn responsibility
To practice skills of organization
To learn time management
To learn how to follow directions
To develop study skills
To prepare students for future years of learning
To learn how to learn independently
READING!!!
In addition to homework in folder, I
expect
you read to your child and let your child read to you every night.
Then talk about the story, talk about the meanings of words as they occur in the story, ask questions after the story.

Get your child his or her own library card.
If you are low on books or can't get to the library, I have books to borrow.
Books make great gifts and rewards.
The best way to become a better reader is to

consequences
for not adhering to them
