Advent of a National Hero CHAPTER 1 The Birth of a Hero Thank You Indios!!!!!! The Rizal Children Rizal was a product of the mixture of races. In his veins flowed the blood of both East and West. Predominantly, he was a Malayan and was a magnificent specimen of Asian manhood. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was born on a moonlit night of Wednesday, June 19, 1861, in the lake shore town of Calamba, Laguna. During the christening ceremony of Jose, Father Collantes was impressed by the baby's big head and he said: "Take good care of this child, for someday he will become a great man.
