-One of the major concerns USA is facing today

-The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010.

-Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period.

-The reason for many of these problems vary from economic constraints to unhealthy lifestyles and in some cases lack of knowledge.

-Project aims at studying and understanding Greenfield, which is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
-The study includes qualitative and quantitative analysis of demographics, food habits and infrastructures.
-We aim at identifying the shortcomings of the neighborhood and provide engineering solutions to better it so as to equip the residents to attain a healthy life.
-Some amendments in access to transportation will be made, which will include a bike track which will connect the grocery stores, K-12 school and a public park.

Exchange one of the Greenfield Av parking lanes for a bike lane
This avenue is a strategic point for a Urban Infrastructure Reformulation:
It is a main street with bus stops, which promotes systems integration;
It passes through residential areas;
Connects the proposed bike lane to the Beachwood Boulevard bike lane (a good start for whole new bike lane mash in Pittsburgh;
Bike stations will be placed in the slices of the parking lane in the opposite side of the bike lane.
Based on a walkabouts in the neighborhood, the conditions of sidewalks was satisfactory, the traffic was low on Greenfield ave and somewhat moderate on Beechwood Blvd and Murray Ave.
Magee Community Center and Schenley Park (adjacent to Greenfield) are the major parks.
Some areas have steep slopes.

Each public bike will have an odometer that can have its information transferred to the station by using an USB connection;
After locking the bicycle back to the station, the user slides his card through the stations’ card sliders to store miles ridden into the card;

Reasons to Install Healthy Rider System
Research Triangle Institute estimates that obesity-related diseases spending costs US $1,429.00 more per person per year for America’s health care in comparison with non-obesity-related disease costs;
2011 CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Survey estimated that 27.2% of the Pittsburghers are obese.
Applying this percentage to the Greenfield Community, we estimate 1983 obese people living in the neighborhood, representing US $2,833,707 more for the Healthy Care System.
Emphasizing more on the obesity problem and looking at the busy life style of the 21st century we created a system through which people can burn calories and get to their destinations.
Bike Lanes on major streets such as Greenfield Ave and linking it with the existing bike lanes on Beechwood Boulevard we look towards creating a safe environment for the school children.
By the introduction of more local markets in Greenfield area, people will find it easy to buy healthy food.
Will be placed at locations where people can buy their food on their way back to home while they return from work.
Future Recommendations
-Collaboration with the city council officials and explain the benefits of this system and the advantages it can bring to a neighborhood.

-The system can be expanded for the whole city. A big city like Paris has a similar system which is called Vélib' . After its initial loss periods, the system has started earning profit for Paris Transportation Department.

-The city of Pittsburgh can be the leader in USA by introducing such a system.
