Historical Context and Surrounding Events Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights: Key Facts. The Victorian Age ::Wuthering Heights was written in the literary
Period called the Victorian Age.
:The Victorian Age was from 1819 to 1901.

The Victorian Age: Continued...! ::Just four years before Victoria assumed reign, slavery was abolished in the British Empire.
:This however was only a ban on the slave trade, not on owning slaves.

Wuthering Heights takes place in Yorkshire, England.

It takes place during the late 18th to early 19th century.

The author, Emily Bronte, used the pen name "Ellis Bell" so readers would not be gender-biased.

Genre: Romanticism, Gothic, Realism.
