What is A Computer?
Computer storage
A computer storage device is any type of hardware that stores data. The most common type of storage device, which nearly all computers have, is a hard drive. The computer's primary hard drive stores the operating system, applications, and files and folders for users of the computer.

What is Software?
Software is a generic term for organized collections of computer data and instructions, often broken into two major categories: system software that provides the basic non-task-specific functions of the computer, and application software which is used by users to accomplish specific tasks.
What is Hardware?
Computer hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer and related devices. Internal hardware devices include motherboards, hard drives, and RAM. External hardware devices include monitors, keyboards, mouce, printers, and scanners.
Understanding Computer Systems
Portable devices
When describing hardware that is portable it means something that is small and lightweight. Laptop computers are portable because they are easy to carry. Other portable devices include PDA's, handheld computers and Tablet PC's.
Software can also be described as portable when it can be run on a variety of computers. The software does not require any particular hardware in order to operate.
Application software
Application software is a program or group of programs designed for end users. These programs are divided into two classes: system software and
application software. While system software consists of low-level programs that interact with computers at a basic level, application software resides above system software and includes database programs, word processors, spreadsheets, etc.
Application software may be grouped along with system software or published alone.

Operating system
An operating system (OS) is a collection of software that manages computer hardware resources and
provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs usually require an operating system to function.
Multimedia software
Multimedia software is a software that:

1: Enables the creation and editing of multimedia documents.

2: Programs that include image, video, and audio editing software, animation software, and other specialty software required to produce computer games, animations, and movies.

Magnetic media
Any storage medium that utilizes magnetic patterns to represent information or data.

Example of Software's...
Writing a letter- (MS) Word
Making calculations/creating charts and graphs- (MS) Excel
Store/query and generate report- (MS) Access
Sending email/receiving email- (MS) Outlook
Creating publications such as leaflet, flyer etc- (MS) Publisher
Making presentations with images and text -(MS) power point
Editing photos- (MS) Paint or (Photoshop)
Editing videos-Movie maker or (AVS video editor)
Examples of Hardware's...
Ink jet printer: The best printer if you only want to print in color occasionally
Dot-matrix printer
The printer which would let you print carbonated copies
Laser printer
The best output device for printing large posters or architects blueprints
Plotter
The printer which would output pages the fastest
Speaker
The most appropriate output device for sound
Monitor:
An input device which immediately lets you view what you have just input
Input devices
Examples of input devices:

1. Keyboard
2. Scanner
3. Printer
4 :Web cam
5. Touch pad
6. Camera
7. computer mouse
8. compact disk
9. microphone
10. joystick
11. disk drive
12. bar code scanner
13. touch screen

Output devices
What are Output devices?

Devices which are connected to the computer with a cable or wifi. Output devices are used to display or receive the data in hard copy, after processing by the computer. The output data might be in the form of sound, images or writing.

Scanner: it is an output device which convert the hard copy of a file into a soft and editable file.

Printer: The printer is
an output device which is used to convert soft copy of a file into a hard one.
Monitor: Monitor is an output device which display any data processed by the computer in the form of words, images and videos
Speaker: This device convert processed data into sound format.

Laptop
A Laptop is a small PC which has a monitor, keyboard, mouse and CPU all together in one unit.

Due to its small size, laptops can be carried easily.
It is battery operated and does not need main power all the time.
The monitor is made of LCD (liquid crystal display) which doesn't affect eyesight (they are more better than TVs which can...)
Due to the latest chip technology laptops are more faster than PCs.
Only laptops have mobile, wifi, infrared and bluetooth technology.
They have a digital camera for taking images and videos.

It can be used for software's like word processing, internet, emailing, printing and multimedia.

Netbook
A netbook is a small innovation in a laptop.
Like a laptop it has a monitor, keyboard, mouse and a CPU all attached together in one unit.
It is battery operated and doesn't need main power.
Due to its small size it doesn't have a CD or DVD ROM.
Due to its small processor (atom) it needs less power to operate.
Most of the netbooks have LCD screens.
They have mobile, wifi, infrared and bluetooth technology.
They have a digital camera for taking images and videos.

softwares which can be used in it are word processing, internet, emailing and printing.

Tablet
A tablet is the advanced shape of a netbook.
It has touch screen and don't need hard keyboard.
Due to its small size it can be carried easily in a pocket.
It can be used for internet, email and support wifi only.
they are battery operated and can be used longer than a netbook.
They have a digital camera for taking images and videos.

Softwares: most of the tablets use operating systems like android, gingerbread and iOS.

Smartphones

Smartphone is like a computer and can be used both for telecommunication, emailing and internet using wifi or mobile data.
Most of them have touch screen and doesnt need hard keyboard
They are small and so can be kept in a pocket.
They are battery operated therefore doesn't need main power

Most of the software's used in smartphones are: iOS, Android and windows.

Others...
Here is a list of the most important parts of a computer:

• Motherboard
• Chipset
• BIOS (basic input, output system
• Operating system
• Memory
In the computer...
A Computer is an electronic device that manipulates information, or 'data'.
The computer sees data as one and zeros in other words uses binary numbers in order to recognize and create words, photographs or a movie etc
...

OPERATING SYSTEM
The operating system runs other programs and performs basic tasks, such as, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk and controlling peripheral devices.
CMOS
Complementary metal-oxide semiconductor
acts as as internal battery to insure information is still stored when the computer is turned off.
MOTHERBOARD
The motherboard is like a big city with many streets and highways which connects all the buildings together. Instead of streets and highways the motherboard uses tiny electric paths to connect each component of the computer together.
MEMORY
Just like humans, computers rely alot on memory. they need to process and store data just like we do. however computers store data in digital format, which means the information can be called up actually the way it was stored. Also unlike our memory, the computer's e memory doesn't get worse over time.
CHIPSET
A number of integrated circuits designed to perform one or more related functions. for example one chipset may provide the modem while the other provide the CPU (central processing unit) functions for a computer.
Ide:
integrated drive electronics controller:
interfaces the hard-drive, floppy dick drive and CD-ROM
Ports:
Interfaces for additional components
Graphics card:
Converts image data to a form that can be viewed on a monitor
Hard disk:
Primary storage medium for most programs and documents
Fan:
Cools the internal components
Power supply:
Supplies power to all components
