Sex and Science
Transcript of Sex and Science
The system of organs involved with the reproduction of an organism, especially sexual reproduction. It consists of mainly the ovaries, uterus, and vagina in females and the testes and Penis in male.
Female sex cells are called egg cells, or ova
Male sex cells are called sperm.
Sex cells only contain one chromosome from each pair. When an egg cell and sperm cell join together, the fertilised egg cell contains chromosomes. One chromosome in each pair comes from the mother, the other from the father. Later producing a embryo.
The gametes, both containing half the genetic
information needed to produce the offspring,
fuse together, meaning all the genetic
information required for the offspring to
grow is present. For this to occur, sexual
intercourse must occur in order for the semen
(sperm) to inject and have the
potential to fuse with the ovum.
Pregnancy last over the time of about 38-40 weeks. Between that time you would have had 3-4 scans at a stage they will be able to tell to the sex of the baby.
