The 13 Original Colonies Massachusetts Massachusetts was founded in 1630. It was settled by John Winthrop. The major industries here are Agriculture (fishing, corn, livestock) and Manufacturing (lumbering, and shipbuilding.) Major cities in this colony are Boston, Quincy, Plymouth, Salem, Lexington, and Concord. This colony became a state in February 6, 1788. This colony is part of the New England colonies. Major industries in this colony are Agriculture (potatoes and fishing) and Manufacturing (textiles and shipbuilding.) A major city in this colony is Concord. This colony became a state on June 21, 1788. This colony is part of the New England colonies. Rhode Island This colony was founded by Roger Williams. It was found in the year of 1636. Its major industries are Agriculture (livestock, dairy, and fishing) and Manufacturing (lumbering.) A major city in this colony is Providence. It became a state on May 29, 1790. This colony is part of the New England colonies. Connecticut This colony was founded by Thomas Hook in the year of 1636. A major industry in this colony is Agriculture (wheat, corn, and fishing.) Major cities in this colony are Hartford and New Haven. Connecticut became a state on February 6, 1788. This colony is part of the New England colonies. New Jersey This colony was founded by English Colonists in the year of 1664. This colony's major industry is Manufacturing (iron working and lumbering.) Major cities in this colony are Trenton and Princeton. This colony became a state on December 18, 1787. This colony is part of the Middle colonies. Delaware This colony was founded by Peter Minuit in the year of 1638. Major industries in this colony are Agriculture (fishing) and Manufacturing (lumbering.) A major city in Delaware is Wilmington. This colony became a state on December 7, 1787. This colony is part of the Middle colonies. Maryland This colony was founded by Lord Baltimore in the year of 1633.
