Act Two Scene Two: The Balcony Scene
"Under the Table" by Banks
The song "Under the Table" by Banks perfectly relates to the balcony scene. In the scene both Romeo and Juliet express their love for each other but know that their love is forbidden since they come from two feuding families. In the first verse of the song, she sings "It already started/I tried to stop it but I already know/You are something I should do without/But I won't", which relates to how the two know they shouldn't love each other, but they will anyway. In the chorus, the artist sings, "Please tell me that this could be easy/I'm tired of waiting for permission to love" which connects to how Juliet is always being told when to love. Finally, the lyrics "I'm already falling/I couldn't help it, didn't think of the risks/I got a problem, problem when I look in your eyes/You're mine and you know it/I'd still do it even if we were cursed/Won't you be my problem it's okay with me if it hurts" relate to how Romeo and Juliet were willing to give up everything to be together.
Act Three Scene Three:
Tybalt v.s. Romeo and Mercutio
"Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift
In Act 3 Scene 1, the fight between Romeo, Tybalt, and Mercutio can be flawlessly described by the song "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. Before Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo has a love for Tybalt because they are cousin in laws (Tybalt is not aware of this). However, after Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo's love for him is thrown away. This pertains to the lyrics "Baby now we've got bad blood/You know it used to be mad love/So take a look what you've done/'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood". After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo is distraught and knows that there is nothing Tybalt can do to make up for his mistakes, which relates to the lyrics "Band-aids don't fix bullet holes", and for that, Romeo kills Tybalt. Now the families really do have bad blood, literally!
Act One Scene Five: Romeo and Juliet first meet
"Falling Slowly" from
Once
We have chosen "Falling Slowly" from the musical
Once
because it is the exact process that goes through Romeo's head when he first sees Juliet. The lyrics "I don't know you/But I want you/All the more for that" can be related to Romeo's thoughts. He doesn't know Juliet, but her beauty shocks him and he immediately falls in love with her. When the artist sings, "Falling slowly, eyes that know me/And I can't go back", it relates to how immediately the two felt a connection and they can't stop it.
Act Four Scene One:
Juliet's desperation for Romeo
"Rather Be" by Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne
The song "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit relates to Act 4 Scene 1 because Juliet would do anything to be with Romeo. When Romeo is exiled and Juliet is being forced to marry Paris, the lyrics "We're a thousand miles from comfort" clearly explain their predicament. When Juliet confides in the Friar to help her escape her marriage to Paris, she says she would do anything (including killing herself) to be with Romeo, which pertain to the lyrics "When I am with you there's no place I'd rather be". Also, when she begs the Friar for help, it relates to the lyrics "If you gave me a chance I would take it/It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it". Juliet would rather die than suffer alive with Paris and without Romeo.
Act Five Scene Three:
Romeo and Juliet's suicide
"Lay Me Down" by Sam Smith ft. John Legend
In Act 5 Scene 3, Romeo finds Juliet "dead" and realizes he can't live without her. The song "Lay Me Down" by Sam Smith perfectly relates to this scene. Romeo thinks that now the only way he will ever be able to be with Juliet is death. This relates to the lyrIcs "Yes, I do, I believe/That one day I will be/Where I was right there/Right next to you". He also claims that the world to him is worth nothing without Juliet, which can pertain to the lyrics "And it's hard/The days just seems so dark/The moon, And the stars/Are nothing without you". Finally, when Romeo decides to commit suicide, it is relevant to the lyrics "Can I lay by your side?/Next to you, you/And make sure you're alright/I'll take care of you/I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight"
Romeo and Juliet: A Tragic Soundtrack
by Deborah Veizi and Madison Ruhmann
I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You'll make it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You'll make it now
Falling slowly, sing your melody
I'll sing along

[Chorus - Taylor Swift:]
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood, hey!

[Verse 1 - Kendrick Lamar:]
Hey! I can't take it back, look where I'm at!
We was on D like DOC, remember that? (Remember that)
My TLC was quite OD, ID my facts (ID my)
Now POV of you and me, similar Iraq
I don't hate you but I hate to critique, overrate you
These beats of a dark heart, use basslines to replace you
Take time and erase you, love don't hear no more
No I don't fear no more, better yet respect ain't quite sincere no more

[Pre-Chorus - Taylor Swift:]
Oh, it's so sad to
Think about the good times
You and I

[Chorus - Taylor Swift:]
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause baby, now we've got bad blood, hey!
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve 'em
You made a really deep cut
And baby, now we got bad blood, hey!

[Verse 2 - Kendrick Lamar:]
Hey! Remember when you tried to write me off?
Remember when you thought I'd take a loss?
Don't you remember? You thought that I would need yah
Follow procedure, remember? Oh wait you got amnesia?
It was my season for battle wounds, battle scars
Body bumped, bruised
Stabbed in the back; brimstone, fire jumping through
Still, all my life, I got money and power
And you gotta live with the bad blood now

[Pre-Chorus - Taylor Swift:]
Oh, it's so sad to
Think about the good times
You and I

[Chorus - Taylor Swift:]
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood, hey!
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve 'em
You made a really deep cut
And baby, now we got bad blood, hey!

[Bridge - Taylor Swift (Kendrick Lamar):]
Band-aids don't fix bullet holes
You say sorry just for show
If you live like that, you live with ghosts
(You forgive, you forget but you never let it go)
Band-aids don't fix bullet holes
You say sorry just for show
If you live like that you live with ghosts
If you love like that blood runs cold

[Chorus - Taylor Swift:] x2
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause baby, now we got bad blood, hey!
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve 'em
(Think we can solve 'em!)
You made a really deep cut
And baby, now we got bad blood, hey!
