Day 2, Block 2-3
January 10, 2011 -No immediate help if there is an emergency 1. Why is this environment extreme? 2. What do you need to survive? 3. What are some challenges when exploring this environment? 4. How does technology help people travel and explore this environment? 2. What do you need to survive? 3. What are some challenges when exploring this environment? 4. How does technology help people travel and explore this environment? 4. How does technology help people travel and explore this environment? -Oxygen tank -Ability to swim -Goggles/things needed for swimming -Very hot -Spews hot material (lava, rock fragments, gas) That was Mauna Loa, the Earth's biggest volcano, erupting Mauna Loa is located in Hawaii -Stay as far away as possible -If getting close, a heat resistent suit -Learn what kind of eruption is likely -Stock up on necessities, have at least a 3-day kit with food and portable water -Depending on the volcano, could erupt at anytime -If there is lava on the ground, its very hot -Could run out of oxygen if staying there for a while -Dark, may not be able to see very well -Dark -No oxygen -Other mammals and fish live there -Could lose contact with people helping them, like out of water That was Etna, one of the world's most active volcanoes, erupting. -No food -Very cold -When erupting, lava could move very fast or very slowly -Could have a debris avalanche (When suddenly rock/debris/soil flows really quickly from a volcano) -Ground could be very hot, from lava in the volcano -If volcano recently erupted, there could be an ash cloud, which sometimes forms after an eruption -Use of cameras to explore and watch other planets in outer space -Space shuttles/ships -Use of video cameras to film the ocean trenches -Robots are used to explore the volcano so humans can watch from a safe distance -Limited air supply -Submarines, underwater ships THE END :)
