Producers are any kind of
green plant
. Green plants
make their own food
by taking sunlight and using the energy to make sugar. The plant uses this sugar, also called
glucose
to make many things, such as wood, leaves, roots, and bark.

Primary consumers are animals that
eat producers
; they are also called
herbivores

(plant-eaters). An example is a rabbit that eats grass.
Secondary consumers
eat primary consumers
. They are
carnivores
(meat-eaters)
and
omnivores

(animals that eat both animals and plants). An example is a snake that eat rabbits.
A
carnivore
at the topmost level in a food chain that
feeds on other carnivores
; an animal that feeds on secondary consumers. An example is an owl that eats snakes.
