How does a wedge work ?

A wedge works by separating items, or by holding items in place

When the downward force from the wedge comes into contact with something, it will produce an outward force.
How do you find mechanical advantage of a wedge?
You can find the mechanical advantage by dividing the length of either slope by the width/thickness of the big end.

MA=slope length/width
How to increase the mechanical advantage
You can increase the mechanical advantage by increasing the length or having a thinner width.

What is a wedge?
Definition:
A wedge is a piece of wood, metal, or some other material having one thick end and tapering to a thin edge that is driven between two objects or parts of an object to secure or separate them
Examples of a wedge:
1.Door Stop

4.Ice pick
5. Shovel
