Reporting Interview Skills Before the Interview First, find a newsworthy topic! Then find out as much as you can about your topic! Next, write down all your questions about the topic. Schedule your interview! Gather materials: recording device, paper, pencil, etc Practice! Practice! Practice! Your Introduction The Questions Using the recording device During the Interview First, Introduce yourself Ask your questions, while looking at your guest. Ask the right question at the right time. Look at the person, stay still while he/she is talking and think about what that person is saying. Make sure you get your answers, but keep the conversation natural After the Interview Find what makes your story unique! This is your "lede"! Choose your best quotes and images. These are when somebody says something interesting in an interesting way. Structure, organize, write and edit your story. Thank the person you interviewed!
