Informational Text Features Map A map is a picture of an area
of land that shows its features. Key or Legend A key shows what the
symbols on a map
stand for. Caption Captions are the words
that explain a picture. Graph A graph shows numerical
information using pictures. Table or Chart A table or chart organizes
information in rows and
columns. Table of Contents The table of contents lists
the information and page
numbers that are found in
a book. Glossary The glossary lists words
in alphabetical order and
tells their meaning. Diagram A diagram is a picture
with labeled parts. Subheadings Subheadings are titles
for a smaller section of
text. Informational text features are
pictures, words, and numbers, organized to help us understand
informational text (expository text). Index The index alphabetically
lists words and topics in
the book and the page numbers
where they are found. The
index is in the back of the book.
