Family The Start of the Success After being in exile the Medici Family returns to their city, Florence. After the current pope dies, Giovanni De Medici sweeps in and claims the spot as the new pope. He becomes known as Pope Leo X. With Giovanni as pope and Giulio as Cardinal they are free to do or say anything they want. A Paved Road Giovanni De Medici was a local merchant, living in a city filled with merchants and entrepreneurs it was difficult for a family to make its name popular. Determined to succeed Giovanni took on the Medici Family bank. Working as father and son Giovanni and Cosimo made a deal with a pirate that would eventually bring the family's name to power within Florence. The new pope remembered his friends and named the Medici family bank the new papal banking business. Due to the success of Giovanni and Cosimo the next in the Medici family had a paved road. Lorenzo the magnificent Giovanni Cosimo Lorenzo spent his money virtously and in turn became know as the magnificent. Lorenzo was know for having a great appreciation for art and culture. This idea of living would drastically change in the next few years. Down the Wrong Path Once the two cousins Giuilo and Giovanni De Medici came into power the whole dynamics of the Medici Family Bank had changed for the worst. Giuilio De Medici Giovanni De Medici Filippo Brunelleschi Brunelleschi was born in 1377 in Florence Italy Like most artist in this time, Brunelleschi was ambitious, other patrons saw him as insane and not worth their time Michelangelo Di Lodvico Buonarroti Simoni Michelangelo was born March 6th 1475 in Caprese Italy At the age of 13 Lorenzo adopted Michelangelo into his home. He was treated like a Medici. Lorenzo rather enjoyed the determination he had at such a young age.
