Major Structure Failures
Transcript of Major Structure Failures
It was also based on ship itself ! The brittle metal in the hulls steel failed
and the iceberg had damaged 300 feet of the steel ! The rivets had also
been loosened by the impact and so they came off the metal !! The water tight
compartments at the bottom of the ship never met their purpose when the ice -
berg hit, and so water leaked in !! The ship was meant to be unsinkable but beacuse
of poor structrual design the ship sank !! The Leaning Tower of Pisa The Leaning tower of Pisa was never supposed to lean !
It was supposed to be the bell tower for the Cathedral of Pisa !
But the loose ground soil under it's wheight compressed and caused the tower to sink into the ground and so the tower began to lean !
Eventually though, it became a big tourist attraction ! The Quebec Bridge Collapse The planning and design of the Quebec Bridge was
never checked before construction.
Because of this mistake the weight of the bridge
itself was over the amount the bridge could actually carry !
And the beams were already bent before they were installed !!
After it had collapsed the workers tried to build another bridge !
Unfortunanly it had collapsed too because the centre of the bridge fell into the river underneath ! Eventually they built a
bridge which could stand it's own weight and many more things ! Reference List Titanic ;
