Transcript of Lino-Cut

Is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut, in which a sheet of linoleum is used for the relief surface. This relief process is where protruding surface of the printing plate or block are inked; recessed areas are ink free.

To Begin...
Lets remember:
there are TWO TYPES of texture and TWO KINDS of (visual) texture!

Types are
visual
and
real/tactile
texture. The two kinds of visual texture are
simulated
and
invented
. Which do you think you will be using in a linoprint?
So you'll need two layers...
This will be your animal or
natural item... it can be multiple
things or just a single item. Keep in
mind- the item and background need to be
related.
The top layer...
An artist that use nature...
You will begin by doing some research to get some ideas
and then you will go home and print off
3 photos
of different natural textures for your background. (inspiration for you invented texture) You will then print off
3 pictures
of animals or natural forms that relate to those textures.
Many examples of texture in Nature
A bottom layer will be an
invented
texture and then a top layer that will be a natural item. For the bottom layer you will need to create a universal layer with an
invented texture
. (Two-dimensional patterns created by the repetition of lines or shapes suggesting real texture, but not imitating texture photo realistically.) The trick will be to cover some of your plate with the texture but not all... leaving some area blank for the natural element... but we will get to that...
Invented Texture- Suggesting what natural texture?
This is the side of the plate you will need to carve the
most out of.

YOU WILL NEED TO LEAVE SPACE FOR THIS ITEM WHEN YOU DESIGN YOUR BACKGROUND INVENTED TEXTURE! LETS LOOK AT MY EXAMPLE...
Tomorrow, after you bring in those PRINTED OFF pictures you will practice line drawings of them in order to pick your favorite combo....
