MAIC 5050:
Political Economy
Study of political economy has two main dimensions:

* How media and communication systems and content reinforce, challenge or influence existing class and social relations, and

* How ownership, support mechanisms such as advertising and government policies influence media behavior and content

* Horizontal and vertical integration
* Concentration
* Interlocking stock ownership, joint ventures, and Boards of Directors
* Tie-ins and merchandising (hypercommercialism)
