Digital libraries are emerging as an important area of research and education for information science, computer science and a number of other related disciplines (Sharma & Urs, 2008).
A digital library is a library that has been developed to fulfill the needs of information facilities in the digital age. The primary form of information in this age is in many cases digital. With digital technology, information in various formats – text, audio, video and electronic can be created, stored, organized, accessed and transmitted with relative ease, and in the forms that we could not have thought of earlier (Singh, 2004). 2. Characteristics of Digital Library:
A large collection of publications in a digital format that are organized in some useful manner, such as subject directories or indexes of search engines.
Accessible, searchable, and duplicatible through the Internet or other media of electronic transmission with greatly reduced barriers in distance and time.
The size and contents of digital libraries undergo changes and modifications with various degrees of frequency while some Web pages are ephemeral; others often are relocated within a web site. 3. What is Digital Reference Services?
Reference services or the personal assistance provided to library users seeking information have been a main component of library activities for more than a century. The reference environment has undergone a significant transformation, as collections and information in general become increasingly accessible electronically (Wan, 2008). 4. Main element of DRS
The main element of any DRS is the answering of users’ queries (Chowdhury and Margariti, 2004). The interface should allow users to place queries electronically usually through a Web form, often via a ‘Contact Us’ or ‘Ask Us’ link in the main menu. In all academic library services observed, there were link for submitting general enquiries and for contacting a librarian.

20 respondents (15 females & 5 males), randomly chosen due to time constrain and cost-effective
Using convenience sampling 3. Procedure & Interview Process
Using Secondary data to gather information like UiTM Website, books, journals, newspapers, magazines, Facebook and internet etc
Using Primary data: observation & doing the in-depth interview via internet chat room, using the smartphone application like WatsApp
Interview Process: Structured interview questions were designed to gather information then the interviews were conducted using the Watsapp and Line to allow respondents to type the answers on the researcher’s questions instantly. This made the interview process more interactive, faster and instant feedback. Other than that, the group researcher also go to the library to do the face-to-face interview to randomly choosen student that were there during the researcers’ visit. The approach was done as the researcher need to view how the students use the library and see the awareness of the students on the digital library. Students was approach by researcher and the researcher expained on the purpose of the study. When the students agree to be interviewed, the researcher start asking the semi-structured interview designed to get instant feedback and data for the interview questions asked
3.1 Structured Research Questions
Main Questions to be answered:
3.1.1 Are students’ aware on the availability of digital library services in PTAR Library of UiTM Shah Alam?
3.1.2 What are the student’s preference and satisfaction towards the digital library services provided by UiTM Shah Alam campus? 4. Data Collection & Data Analysis
Medium/Research Tools to collect data: Internet, Smartphone Mobile Applications
Internet: e-mail, internet instant messaging like Facebook and Yahoo Messenger and Skype
Smartphone Mobile Application: WatAps, Line, Facebook Messenger
Face-to-Face interview using semi-structured question designed.
10 Semi-structured interview questions were designed with 2 main reserach objectives:
(1) Whether they are aware on the existence of the Digital Library in UiTM Main Campus
(2) How they find that the Digital Library in UiTM Campus.
Folow Miles and Huberman’s (1990) data analysis approach. Researcher summarizes the raw data manually into coding and themes; make comparisons among the respondents’ were being interviewed and finally interpret the data according to the research questions set for this study 5. Ethical Consideration
As this study involves the privacy data, the researcher had brief the respondents who participated in that study that their answers and personal details will be kept strictly confidential before the interview session was carried out. This is to make sure that the respondents will give full cooperation and the answers given will not be biased. No names were revealed and the data collected is purely for study purposes only unless the respondents gave the consent to relay the message to the Management of UiTM Shah Alam for the purpose of improving the communication channel service. The consent to tape the voice was also being asked to avoid any future arguments. 1. Findings
1.1 Respondent’s Demographic Profiles
1.1.1 20 respondents (15 Females, 5 Males)
1.1.2 Aged between 25 – 38 years old
1.2 The Student’s Awareness on the Digital Library Existence in UiTM Shah Alam
1.2.1 From the interview session conducted, majority of the respondents were aware on the existence of the Digital Library in
PTAR1 of UiTM Shah Alam but many of them not using the services since they has difficulties in accessing the digital library
1.3 Student’s Feedback on Digital Library of PTAR 1 of UiTM Shah Alam
1.3.1 Majority of interviewees perceived that the UiTM digital library was not fully digitized yet. They agree that the system use in the library is using computerized for them to search for the books they were wanted yet if the online library access was given to all students was much more better as they did not have to go to the actual library to source for the references since many of them were among the part-time or long distance students where if the online or digital library is fully equipped with digital divide they can use it without having to go out and will same time and money.
1.3.2 They were also has the difficulty in access the UiTM library since they need to have certain access to utilise it in order to use the source of references in UiTM digital library. Some of them suggested that the UiTM need to make some advertisement on the existence of the digital library in terms of usage, steps on how to use and access the source reference, as well as simplify the access to the digital library. For example, students can just log into the digital library with their students’s ID and registered password as first log-in.
1.3.3 Finally, three interviewees claimed that although there are digital library available they still love to go to the library. They still like to read and have the actual books and also hang out with friends in the library. They feel like having face-to-face communication or human touch had a number of advantages instead of dealing with digital divide. 2. Conclusion
2.1 Impact of Technology advances towards study and references

2.2 It is hoped that this little research could help improve the
digital library in PTAR1 UiTM Library - find the challenges faced
by students towards Digital Library in UiTM Shah Alam and help
the policymakers to improve the service and let the students to
enjoy the digital age 3. Limitation and Recommendation for Future Studies
Findings of research is limit to PTAR 1 of UiTM Shah Alam main campus
Only valid to describe the feedback from the degree and post graduate students of the group researcher randomly selected
Result might be bias since the respondents selected is base on randomly chosen
Due to time constrain, the results of the study might not accurate as well as might influence the reliability and validity of the data collected
3.2 Recommendation for future studies
Future study should also has broader scope with more number of respondents involve other libraries in UiTM campus
