Linda Hodges TouchMath touch- To bring something into light contact with
Math- The study of the measurement relationships and properties of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbol TouchMath strategy presents quantity by dots on each of the numbers 1-9. Numbers 1-5 have solid dots. After 5, TouchMath uses circled dots, or "double touch points," each of which represents the quantity of 2. Students learn to touch each of the touch points once, and to touch each double touch point twice, with pencil when counting . www.touchmath.com TouchMath TouchMath When first beginning the TouchMath program depending on the grade start with numbers 1-5, so students can become familiar with this approach. Once students understand how to add one, then you can go on to two and so on. Start with the highest number and add on. Dr. Vinson/Athens State University Getting Started: When teaching addition using TouchMath, the first thing you must do is teach students the TouchPoints for numerals 1-9. Laminate number line for each students with the TouchPoints clearly marked on them.
The TouchMath method:
Simplifies and Clarifies all areas of computation
Develops left/right directionality
Reduces number reversals
Reinforces number values
Helps develop a positive self-image In TouchMath addition students count forward.
In subtraction, they count backward.
In multiplication and division, they count in sequences. Students touch, count and repeat the problems and answers aloud to ensure success. Dr. Vinson/www.touchmath.com TouchMath TouchMath is considered evidenced based

Following intervention of strategy and structured worksheet given to students to complete. Dr. Vinson/Athens State University TouchMath TouchMath's intended to:
accelerate math comprehension
build a firm foundation
remediate learning problems
used for students with learning disabilities
support remedial math instruction with students in high school and adult education classes TouchMath Let look at some theorist approaches that's seen in TouchMath:
pictorial- see picture of touchpoints
concrete- touch and point to touchpoints
all of Piaget's four stages
spiral direction-plenty of practice is provided with single-digit addition before moving on to two digit regrouping /Dr. Vinson
