European Countries Before and After WW1
Before:
Suffered large losses from Balkan Wars
Wanting more territory which was promised by the Central Powers
Austria

Before:
Western half of Austria Hungary
Alliance with Germany
Shared empire with Hungary
Beginning to modernize fast but still behind
After:
Lost land that was obtained in WWI
democratic government
After:
Lost
forced to give up large parts of its empire
Austria is now a small, lone country
Hungary

Before:
Eastern half of Austria-Hungary
Once joined with Austria, it began to modernize quickly
Alliance with Germany
After:
Divided
Hungary became independent
lost a large amount of Hungarian population, which was in Transylvania

tried to remain neutral to all countries

Suffered greatly at the hands of the Germans
tried to build up a better military after the war
