We know that all of these things were written at the time, while witnesses were still alive to agree or disagree ...almost all modern scholars consider the baptism of Jesus and his crucifixion to be two historically certain facts about him.[21][58] James Dunn states that these "two facts in the life of Jesus command almost universal assent" and "rank so high on the 'almost impossible to doubt or deny' scale of historical facts" that they are often the starting points for the study of the historical Jesus.[21] ..the agreement on crucifixion is very widespread, and most scholars in the third quest for the historical Jesus consider the crucifixion indisputable.[23][59][60][61] Eddy and Boyd state that it is now "firmly established" that there is non-Christian confirmation of the crucifixion of Jesus.[24] Bart Ehrman states that the crucifixion of Jesus on the orders of Pontius Pilate is the most certain element about him.[60] John Dominic Crossan states that the crucifixion of Jesus is as certain as any historical fact can be.[23]John P. Meier views the crucifixion of Jesus as historical fact and states that based on the criterion of embarrassment Christians would not have invented the painful death of their leader.[61] Meier states that a number of other criteria, e.g. the criterion of multiple attestation (i.e. confirmation by more than one source), the criterion of coherence (i.e. that it fits with other historical elements) and the criterion of rejection (i.e. that it is not disputed by ancient sources) help establish the crucifixion of Jesus as a historical event.[62] Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. They believed they'd seen a risen Christ Question: Who would have emptied it? Jews & Romans wouldn't - They wanted him dead & guarded the tomb to avoid any rumors he wasn't. Disciples wouldn't else they'd know it was a hoax & they wouldn't be willing to suffer for it. Question: Why would they think this? Too many people for a hallucination, especially as many saw him together Question: could he have passed out rather than died? No. After hours on the cross an abdominal spear wound and 3 days without food or water he would not have been in a fit state to convince people he was raised and immortalised, nor could he appear in locked rooms Conclusion:
He was raised from the dead Fact: The apostolic record names numerous living witnesses Fact: In the presence of these witnesses, Christianity grew 'virally' Implication: The witnesses affirmed what it was claimed they saw So What? 1 Corinthians 15: 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
