Supernatural does not exist or is symbolic
Heaven and Hell are states of the mind and soul
Humanity moving towards unity under one God
Thus human race is one
Each individual must find truth for themselves
All religions come from one source
All nations should become one faith
All forms of prejudice should end
Harmony must exist between religion and science
Equality of men and women
Compulsory education
Extremes of wealth and poverty should be abolished
A world tribunal for adjudicating disputes
Response to changes in society
New ideologies like science and materialism
New understandings of older traditions
New spiritual revelations, scriptures and practices

Emergence of Baha'i

Husayn Ali
, a Babi, declared himself the one foretold of by "The Bab"
Revelation made in Ridvan, near Baghdad, while Babi community in exile
Husayn Ali assumes name
Bahaullah
Community becomes the Baha'is
Exiled to Acre, a Turkish prison city (now in Israel)
Emergence of Baha'i
Bahaullah was able to write and have visitors
Set out many missionaries
Preached universal religion and unity of mankind
One of the first scriptures was the
Kitab-i-Aqdas
(The Most Holy Book)
Bahaullah dies in 1892
His son,
Abdul Baha
, takes over leadership

Abdul Baha is freed by Turks in 1908
He begins touring, promoting Baha'i

Shoghi Effendi
, his grandson, takes over leadership
He establishes Baha'i in numerous nations
Shoghi Effendi dies in 1957
Instead of a person, and elected council assumes leadership which still leads the worldwide religion today
