Child Abuse Reporting for a Nonprofit Organization

Who is a mandated reporter?
"An administrator or employee of a public or private organization whose duties require direct contact and supervision of children" -CA Penal Code
Should we even follow this law?
Failure to report is misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in county jail and/or up to a $1000 fine

He or she may also be found civilly liable for damages, especially if the child-victim or another child is further victimized because of the failure to report
New founder and CEO of a Nonprofit organization that works directly with children in the state of California
Yikes!!! Almost everyone in this class....

Create an organizational policy to include all employees and volunteers

Provide a live training workshop

Follow with a policy and procedure manual with the training material covered in the workshop

Have all employees and volunteers sign legal acknowledgment forms
After all, the CA law specifies 'Individuals' not 'organizations'
What about policies and procedures to prevent child abuse within the organization?
