Molecular Biology in Life Sciences Why is Blue Biotechnology important? The development of biotechnology that creates marine technology to track the sea environment and any health threats to humans.
Nature and Animal Conservation is an issue since preserving species and their habitats is important for environments to support themselves. But when people destroy habitats for logging and illegal hunting, conservation becomes a struggle. Bio economy is an economy that is based on ecological sensitive products and services made from the use of biotechnology and renewable energy sources. Bio economy is used to talk about the investments and the economical benefits that biotechnology brings. Genomic analysis of marine organisms, including the organized sampling of different microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, and micro plankton), algae and invertebrate. Meta genomic studies of aquatic microbiology and macrobiomes. This is the development of marine-derived molecules trusted by industries including enzymes, bio polymers and bio materials. They will be used for expressions of marine proteins and enzymes through specific hosts and producing marine bio polymers as new competitive commercial products in food, cosmetics and health. Biotechnology is the exploration of biotechnological processes and other purposes. Also it is technology based on biology. Biotechnology uses cellular and bio molecular processes to make technologies and products that help improve our lives and the health of the planet. What does Blue Biotechnology mean? Blue biotechnology is the application of molecular biological methods to marine and freshwater organisms. These organisms are used for purposes like increasing seafood supply and safety, controlling the reproduction of dangerous water-borne organisms, and developing new drugs. Blue biotechnology also deals with marine and aquatic usages of biotechnology. Examples of Blue Biotechnology Aspects of Blue Biotechnology .There are many categories under blue biotechnology such as: Marine Environment, Marine Renewable Energy, Bio-engineering of Marine Micro-organisms, Genomics and Meta-Genomics, Molecular Biology in Life Sciences, the Use of Marine Algae, Cultivation of Marine Organisms, Food Products, Industrial Products and Processes, and Health. Marine Renewable Energy This is the development and demonstration of usable renewable energy products and processes using offshore wind, ,marine biomass, wave, tide, ocean currents, and thermal gradient. The motion of waves can be used to power turbines to create electricity; Tidal energy are reliable by having great potential of powering turbines & creating electricity. Bio-engineering of marine micro-organisms This includes marine micro-organism cultivation systems, productivity, and cost. Innovative photo bio reactors adapted to different species and production, as well as research on the bio refinery approach based on micro algae production. The Use of Marine Algae This is to produce an inventory of micro algae resources for bio fuel production; improve knowledge of basic biological functions, tools for controlling the metabolism and cultivation methods of marine micro algae, enhance fat productivity and obtain micro algae with perfect characteristics for mass cultivation. Cultivation of marine organisms This is to develop enabling technologies for culture and isolation of uncultivated microorganisms. Also to develop innovative culture methods adapted to vertebrate or invertebrate cell lines for production of active compounds. Food Products This is the development of food products and ingredients of marine origin (algae, invertebrates, fish) with perfect nutritional properties for human health by developing innovative methods for selective breeding of aquaculture species. Also, to develop biotechnological applications and methods to increase sustainability of aquaculture production, including the mixture of new, low environmental impact feed ingredients to improve quality of products and human health benefits. Health This is the development of new drugs, treatments, health and personal care products by increasing focus on the basic research of marine species and organisms from unusual and extreme environments. This will overcome the supply problem to provide a sustainable source of new pharmaceutical and healthcare products through scientific advances in aquaculture. More than 80% of the Earth's living organisms are found only in aquatic ecosystems. About 40% of coastal waters are currently unfit for swimming because of bacteria and pollutants. Seafood-borne illness negatively affects public health and coastal economies. Preserving a variety of marine species
