What is inclusion?
expresses commitment to provide specially designed instruction and support for students with special needs in the context of general education classroom
all students are full members of classroom community
support services brought to the child, rather than moving to the support services
a belief that all children have the potential to learn and grow
ability to respond to the cultural and/or socio economic needs of the student
ability to support positive behavior in and out of the classroom
dedication to seeing each child as an individual
modification of curriculum and activities to include all students
Individuals with Education Act (IDEA):

*does not require inclusion in schools
*each school needs to provide the best learning environment for each individual student
*intent of IDEA is to educate as many students as possible with disabilities in the regular classroom setting
*keeping in mind LRE
