Summary by
Flora Ngo #17
Chapter 1
Claudia made the choice to run away to
the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She fealt
as if she wasn't appreciated at in her family. Planning ahead, she chose Jamie, her nine-year-old brother to accompany her on her adventure. Claudia is the eldest of four children, next is Steve, then Jamie, and finally Kevin. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs.Kincaid.
Jamie and Claudia plan to leave on Wednesday
with money Claudia has saved with Jamie's
$24.68 (which was a lot in those days).
Chapter 2
Claudia and Jamie start out their adventure.
Boarding the school bus started out their plan.
After getting off the bus, they went to the
post office to send two letters, one home
explaining not to worry and the other to receive
25 cents from box tops. Jamie was put in
charge of money expenses. To get to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, they took a train.
Chapter 3
Claudia amd Jamie walked to the museum.
They entered free and went to eat lunch in
the snack bar. As they planned their stay at night in the museum that day, they decided to hide in the bathrooms. Exploring the museum, they found a bed where they would spend the night and finally became a family and cared for each other.
Chapter 4
After waking up on their second day at the museum, Claudia and Jamie hid their items. Jamie almost gets caught when he comes out from a bathroom stall too early. They decided to learn something new everyday while given the opportunity. On their way to the Italian Renaissance, they
discover information about Angel and their investigation
begins.
Chapter 5
On their third day after running away, Claudia and
Jamie did their laundry, but their clothes ended up to be gray. They traveled to the local library and tried to find out more about Angel. While hiding after they returned to the museum, Jamie and Claudia discover that Angel was being moved. The fountain they took baths in was covered in coins at the bottom. Naturally, the Kincaids took the coins and used them for their own reasons. It was then that they started feeling homesick.
Chapter 6
It was Sunday and Jamie and Claudia started it out with prayer. They went to look for clues an Angel and they noticed a peculiar symbolon the bottom of the statue; evidence. Michaelangelo's stone mason mark! Claudia suggested they send a letter to the curator of the museum about this clue. With the corrections made, here is their letter typed on a typewriter :

Now is the time for all good men to come to
the aid of their party;

Dear Museum Head,
We think that you should examine the
bottom of the statue for an important clue.
The statue we mean is the one you bought for
$225.00. And the clue is that you will find
Michelangelo's stone mason's mark on the
bottom. If you need help about this clue, you
may write to us at Grand Central Post Office.
Box 847 in Manhattan.
Sincerely,
Friends of the Museum
Chapter 7
They rented a post ofice box for $4.50. Then
at the museum, they used the fact that there
was a school field trip there and delivered the
message.
Chapter 8
Claudia and Jamie took a tour of the United
Nations building and Jamie came up with a
well-thought story as to why they were not in school. Claudia decided that she wanted to return home different. Arterwards, they checked their mailbox and saw that a letter had come back from the museum.
They were so disappointed that they visited Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler to find out the truth.
Chapter 9
Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler ate lunch with them. Jamie and Mrs. Frankweiler played cards after lunch wile Claudia just sat there thinking and watching their game. Eventually,
Mrs. Frankweiler coaxed them into telling them the secret of Angel if they tell her the facts about theirn adventure. She gave them one hour to search for the file in her cabinets that contained the secret. Under Bologna, Italy, they found tje file. It indeed was sculpted by Michelangelo. Mystery solved!
Chapter 10
The Kincaids told their story into a tape recorder.
Then Mrs. Frankweiler got a call from Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid and promised to have them driven home the next day. Claudia and Jamie decided to make her their grandmother and her lawyer was their natural grandfather, so, you know.
I think the book was very interesting and it gave me a good laugh. Yes I would recommend it to a friend because I think everyone should get the pleasure to read this delightful book. My favorite part was when
Claudia typed the letter because I was grateful of the technology we have today. My least favorite part is when they stole money from the fountain because stealing is wrong as it says in the Ten Commandments.
My favorite character was Claudia because she was cautious and planned everything out. If you've read it, I hope you enjoyed it!
