How much does he make per hour? Write it in the 3 ways.
Problems
Mathematical Skills Needed
Key Words
Ratio : Ratios Compares 2 things and show how they are related.

Part to Part : When you compare one to another example : 4 to 7

Part to Total : When you compare one to total example : if 4 to 8 is part to part then if you add them you get the total : 4 : 12
First step : Put the 1st number mentioned first the put a : to compare the two numbers, then the 2nd number mentioned.
12 : 2

Second step: Simplify
6 : 1

Our Project
At Halloween, one booth gained 140$ and the other booth gained 110$.
Our project is about ratios, rates and proportions
explaing how they work
and what they are. What is an ratio?
An ratio is a number that is compared to another.
<---- this is an Ratio
The purpose of this project is to teach others about
all the types of ratios and how to solve them. After
students watch this presentations they will be able
to compare to different things.
First Step : Put the 1st number mentioned first the put a : to compare the two numbers, then the 2nd number mentioned.
Second Step : Simplify if possible
Ratios, Rates, and Proportions are Fun!

3:5
For doing ratios you have to know fractions.
John makes 12$ for every two hours working in the supermarket.
The 3 ways to write an Ratio
3 to 5

3:5

3/5
You need to know how to divide and multiply.
There were 63 chocolate bars for 7 apples

5.00 / 12 = 0.41 per oz
6.50 / 24 = 0.27 per oz
So the better price is the second choice.
This can help in real life, in the same example.
6.2
Ana went to the supermarket, she went to buy a package of wafers. There was an package of 12 oz. witch costs $5.00 and another that had 24 oz. that costs $6.50, which is the best choice.
First Step : divide the price with the oz.
5.00 / 12 = 0.41 per oz
6.50 / 24 = 0.27 per oz
So the better price is the second choice.
This can help in real life, in the same example.
63 7
---- = ----
7 1
First Step : make them as an proportion, like the one below.

Second Step : Divide the bottom number so that it turns into 1.

Third Step : Divide the top number the same as the bottom number.
Rate -->
A Rate is a comparison of two numbers or two measurements. A
rate is a special ratio which the two terms are in different units.

Proportion -->
A Proportion is when two things are the same but one has a different
measure. Example --> 2/3 - 4/6. They are the same but one is simplified
and changes the number. What is the ratio?

There were 12 cats for every 16 dogs

12:16 and the simplest form is 3:4.
What is an Rate/ Proportion?
What is the ratio?
There are 10 boys for every 17 girls
Common Mistakes People make
Some common mistakes people do is to invert the variables that represent different things.
For example : 2 boy for 3 girls
The correct answer in 2:3 but sometimes people write 3:2

Sometimes people forget to simplify.
ANSWER KEY :
1.
Jon makes 6 dollars per hour working.
2.140 to 110 / 14 to 11
3 .63 7
---- = ----
7 1
4. 5.00 / 12 = 0.41 per oz 6.50 / 24 = 0.27 per oz
So the better price is the second choice.
This can help in real life, in the same example.
140 to 110
14 to 11
Real Life Application :
Josh wants to buy a package of chips. There were two different types of packages. There was one that was a package of 40 oz. for 3.00$, and another that is 50 oz. which costs 4.00$. Josh wants to buy the cheaper packages, which would be the better buy?
Real life : The Better buy would be the package of 40 oz.
YOU TRY!!!
What is the ratio of dogs to cats?
What is the ratio of Hamsters to Birds?
What is the ratio of snakes to total?
1. 5 Dogs to 7 Cats

2. 9 Hamsters to 10 Birds

3. 2 Snakes to 33 Pets
Annie makes 15 ribbons per 30 minutes. Make this in another way of saying an ratio.
She makes 2 ribbons per minute
