How did the Reed Flute Cave get its name?
Got its name from the reeds growing outside the cave
Reeds can be made into beautiful sounding flutes
That’s why it is called the Reed Flute Cave.

What other tourist attractions are in Guilin, China?
Guilin has many attractions like
The Li River
Elephant Trunk Hill
Folded Brocade Hill
Seven Star Park
The Ling Canal
My favorite the Reed Flute Cave.

When did tourists start visiting the Reed Flute Cave?
Started visiting the cave in the time of the Tang Dynasty
It was opened publicly in 1962
Been a tourist attraction for over 1,200 years
Why is tourism booming in China?
More middle class people now live in China
Chinese Government is allowing more travel
More young people are moving to big cities in China to make more money
Beautiful limestone cave
Attracts many tourists from around the world
Has many multicolored lights
Gives the rock formations a mysterious look
Been a popular attraction for many years
Filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and very interesting rock formations
What is the Reed Flute Cave?
Where is the Reed Flute Cave located?
Located 5 kilometers northwest of downtown Guilin, Guangxi, China
The Guangxi Province is in the southern part of China
Guilin is in the northern part of The Guangxi province
The cave is on Guangming Hill
Who discovered the reed flute cave and when?
No one really knows who originally discovered the Reed Flute Cave
Over 70 inscriptions on the walls of the cave
They date back to about 792 AD
They written and made by the Tang Dynasty
In the 1940’s, during World War II, the cave was rediscovered by refugees
The refugees were trying to escape from the Japanese troops
It has been a tourist attraction in China ever since
Who were some of the emperors of the Tang Dynasty?
