Verbal communication involves using speech and sound to communicate with others. Verbal communication problems include translation difficulties, misinterpretations due to confusion and many others. Verbal Communication is the most used and important type of communication. Clear speech, remaining calm and focused, being polite and following some basic rules of etiquette will all help the process of verbal communication. You can also improve your verbal skills by thinking before you speak, preparing sentences in your head and think about your words. You want to get your message across politely, concisely and efficiently.
Nonverbal communication involves body language,facial expressions and gestures. Your tone of voice can be influenced by your body language. It's important to use the correct body language to ensure your message isn't misinterpreted. You can improve your nonverbal skills by paying closer attention to other people's behaviors, maintaining enough eye contact, focusing on your tone of voice , using correct body posture, and looking at context clues about the type of conversation you're in.
This type of communication involves symbols/letters either handwritten or electronic. Good writing skills are vital to communicate clearly and effectively as a paralegal. Some examples of bad writing skills include bad grammar/spelling, incomplete sentences, and confusing wording.
You can improve your writing skills by using correct grammar/spelling, knowing your audience, being short and specific, using empathy and simple language, and using the correct tone in your writing.
You want to be able to communicate clearly and efficiently to clients, co-workers, and others. Listening Goals are to not only hear but comprehend what is told. Written Goals are to understand and read what is written. Nonverbal goals are to communicate with the use of body language. Verbal goals are to speak smoothly and concisely.
