Proposal Jerry Ross The significance of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Close Reading Strategies in writing, student reading perception and overall student performance. •Will Close Reading Strategies increase student achievement in writing?

•Will Close Reading Strategies improve student perception of reading? Process to Accomplish This topic used the single subject action research method to study the impact of Close Reading Strategies on student success. Introduction Guiding Research Questions Purpose of Dissertation The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Close Reading strategies using an action research method in a fifth grade ELA classroom. Significance of Study Research Population The proposed study will be conducted in a elementary school that is located in north middle Tennessee. Approximately 75% of the school's population is eligible for free and reduced meals. 58% of the students are minority. The experimental school serves students from Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Feasibility of Study The subjects of the study are the researcher's 5th grade classroom. The data will come from those students and their TCAP and TCAP writing scores.
