Knowing God's Will
The Methods and Dangers
of the Individual Will of God

God's works of providence are, His most holy, wise, and powerful preserving and governing all His creatures, and all their actions.
Moral Will of God:
God's revealed commands in the Bible that teach people how to believe and live
Nowhere in scripture as we commanded or directed to discover an individual will' for our lives
Nowhere in scripture are we promised by God to be led in this manner
This is actually the quest of the lost person
Deuteronomy 18:14-14; 18-19
Problems with discovering an
'Individual Will of God'
Acts 3:20-23

“20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.”
Problems with discovering an
'Individual Will of God'
Hebrews 1:1-3

“1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds”
Problems with discovering an
'Individual Will of God'
Acts 1:1-2

“1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,  2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:”
 2 Timothy 3:16-17

"16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
Random Bible Passages
Circumstances
Inner Peace
Not every open door should be walked through
2 Corinthians 2:12-13
Sin can be an open door
An open door does not mean an easy path
1 Corinthians 16:8-9
Acts 16:25-34
Many right decisions seem like closed doors
David and Goliath
Moses and Pharaoh
Three Hebrews
Joseph
Salvation
Peace with God is a positional reality and not a subjective feeling
Romans 5:1

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The peace of God comes through prayer and reliance on God in contrast to anxiety over safety and provision here
Philippians 4:6-7
Feelings cannot be trusted
Emotional Bias
We are reluctant to believe something that makes us feel bad
We tend to believe something that gives a positive feeling even when there is evidence to the contrary
We need the Bible to discern our feelings and a situation
What are the real consequences?
It minimizes God's clear teaching, the Bible, Christ, and the need to be wise stewards
It miscommunicates to others about how God works today
It follows the pattern of lost people
It minimizes the multitude of other clear commands in scripture
It results in both rest and concern where there shouldn't be
