Lesson 27: The Influence of Wicked and Righteous Leaders
Transcript of Lesson 27: The Influence of Wicked and Righteous Leaders
Be Thou an Example
Each member can be an example of the believers. Brethren, as followers of Jesus Christ, each of you can live in accord with His teachings. You can have “a pure heart and clean hands”; you can have “the image of God engraven upon your [countenance].” 10 Your good works will be evident to others. 11 The light of the Lord can beam from your eyes. 12 With that radiance, you had better prepare for questions. The Apostle Peter so counseled, “Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you.”
-Russell M. Nelson, Oct 2010
The Mormon Effect
What did come as a surprise to me is why people would have such negative views of Mormons. I have known lots of them in my life, and in most cases they have been hard-working, kind, generous family-oriented people—just the kind of people this country used to value (and maybe that’s the problem right there.)
Mormons have intrigued me ever since Mike Huckabee back in 2007 claimed that Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers. With the recent election over, I decided to check out Mormons a bit more.
Aren't you a popular Mormon among your peers?
This kind of makes you a leader
Pretty Awful Leadership....
1 Kings 12:6-14
1 Kings 12:28
1 Kings 13:33-34
Kind of Awesome Leadership...
Rehoboam was a jerk who disobeyed the Lord
Do we first turn to the Lord in affliction?
So what do we do about it?
*Visiting and home teaching included. Obviously.
Be thou and Example...
Leadership: a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task
1Kings 12-14, 2 Chronicles 17 & 20
1 Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
How are you going to be a better leader?
"To every officer, to every teacher in this Church who acts in a priesthood office, there comes the sacred responsibility of magnifying that priesthood calling. Each of us is responsible for the welfare and the growth and development of others. We do not live only unto ourselves. If we are to magnify our callings, we cannot live only unto ourselves. As we serve with diligence, as we teach with faith and testimony, as we lift and strengthen and build convictions of righteousness in those whose lives we touch, we magnify our priesthood."
-Gordon B. Hinckley, April 1989
2 Chronicles 17:1-5, 9
2 Chronicles 20:1-9, 15-17, 20-21
