Journal Entry #2
Write for
10 minutes
about 1
or more
of these topics:
We are halfway through the play. What
predictions
do you have for Act 2? Include supporting evidence.
How do you feel about Anne? Has your
opinion
about her changed? Why or why not?
Who is the most
relatable
character to you? Why?
Imagine you have been in hiding with your family (and maybe a few others) for over a year. How is everyone getting along? What
external conflicts
have you had? How much longer can you last?
Anne gets along better with her father than her mother. She sometimes she feels like two people, a nice Anne and a mean Anne. Sometimes she can't stop herself from saying or doing the wrong thing. Do you ever have any of these kinds of feelings? Do you think it's normal for teenagers, or people in general, to have this kind of
internal conflict
? Is who you are different from who other people want you to be? Explain.
Think/Pair/Share:
First, think about your answer.
Then, discuss it with a partner.
Finally, share with the class.

What have we learned about the characters in this scene? Do you think they will all get along?
Discuss:

At the end of Scene 5, why were Mr. Van Daan and Mr. Dussel mad at Peter?
Do you think Peter's actions will get them caught?
Think/Pair/Share:

In Scene 4, Anne says she is trying to change her bad qualities and behavior. Do you think it is possible to change in this way? Why or why not?

Does everyone have a good side and a bad side?
Think/Pair/Share

What is a possible theme of
The Diary of Anne Frank?
