Transcript of Alpaca

Alpaca Alpacas: A long-haired domesticated South American mammal (Lama pacos) of the camel family, related to the llama and valued for its wool. Alpacas come from the Altiplano region of the Andes Mountain in South America, around the 12,000 to 14,000 foot level. Get off my turf! They survive in this harsh enviorment with their thick fur and padded feet. It is very cold and the air is thin, but alpacas can take that, they have adapted to it. Ecosystem Habitat Alpacas are part of the mountian biome. They live on farms, there are no known alpacas living in the wild. rogue alpacas There could be other animals on the farm but alpacas are usually on their own, they only have eachother. Loner alpacas Symbiotic Relationships The magestic alpaca has many relationships, one being the relationship between the alpaca and the human. They are now located in farms around the world. The relationship is that the human takes care of the alpaca and offers it love and food and shelter. The human gets the alpacas fur in return. It is a mutualistic relationship. I like being shaved! Alpacas also have Parasitic relationships with bugs like mosquitos. They suck the alpaca blood. Mountain lions, coyotes, bears, and other carnivores are the predators to alpacas. If an animal like one of those gets into the farm then the alpaca is dead. Predators Prey Grass, alpacas eat grass. They chew on cud all day long. YUM! Niche Alpacas have rough and tough feet so they can walk on the tough rocks. Alpacas also have thick fur for when it gets cold. In the mountains it gets cold. Did you know that alpaca fur is one of the most expensive furs in the world? Did you know that there are 22 natural shades of alpaca fur? They come in blacks, browns, and whites. Did you know that not all alpacas spit? Only some do when they feel threatened. Alpacas
