Serial Killers II
Sean Vincent Gillis
By Savon Williams
Forensics- Downer (Period 7)
Why did he kill?
He was a sick man. Sean Vincent Gillis did not plead insane to account for his murders. He pleaded guilty and referred to his killings as a "chess game" between him and the police. He became obsessed with his victims and mutilated their bodies.
Methods of Killing
- Stabbing
- Strangling
- Rape
- Body Mutilation
Where did the killings occur?
All of them were made in the Baton Rouge Area in Louisiana. These killings were not connected. He says most of his victims were
"already dead to him", because they were lower class citizens (prostitutes, drug abusers, etc.)
Sean Vincent Gillis
Sean Vincent Gillis (born 24 June 1962) is an American serial killer who stalked, kidnapped, raped, murdered, and mutilated eight Louisiana women between 1994 and 2003 in the Baton Rouge Metro and surrounding areas. He was arrested without incident at his residence on Burgin Road at 1:30 a.m. on April 29, 2004
Family life
He was the son of Yvonne and Norman Gillis. During his 2004 first-degree murder trial for the slaying of Donna Bennett Johnston, his mother, Yvonne, testified that her son was a good, happy kid who did well in school, had friends and was generally just a normal child.
"I used to call him my little blue eyed angel" - Yvonne Gillis
How long did the spree last?
1994- 2004
His first victim- 81 year-old Ann Bryan in March 1994. Stabbed her 50 times and slit her throat.

His last victim- Donna Bennett Johnson, 43. He strangled and raped her.
How was he caught?
In April 2004, tire tracks found near the body of Donna Bennett Johnston were used to track Gillis down. The tracks were from a unique set of tires and the Louisiana State Crime Lab was able to determine the brand, model, and type of tire. They were then able to narrow it down further when they found that this particular tire was only manufactured for a three-year period, which ended in 2003. Only 90 purchases of the tire had been made in the Baton Rouge Area. Physical evidence later connected him to other murders.
