Conclusion

To be sovereign in computing is to be the true owner of your information, of your computer's hardware resources and to share these things anyway you want, with whomever you want and just with them. It's being able to participate in the Internet free of middlemen.

In other words, it's taking part in the Internet as an autonomous, independent and sovereign party.

As more applications are created and improved, more users can have a rich computing experience, keeping their own data without subjecting themselves to large corporations.

Manifest

Released in 2004, its purpose is to bring to the Internet the freedoms we have in real life but have lost online.

You can find the manifest and a story that illustrates it here: http://www.advogato.org/article/808.html

What is

Now a days...

Sovereign Computing

What?!

Imagine if, every time you wanted to talk to a friend, relative or lover, you were required to have a middleman present, potentially listening to your conversation. That's what happens when we use email, WindowsLive, Skype, GoogleTalk, Facebook...

Ok.... but how?

Some projects are being developed following the principles of Sovereign Computing. An example is Sneer.

It is software that runs on your machine like Skype or WindowsLive. The difference is that, instead of holding you and your data to a closed proprietary network, Sneer keeps it under your control, being shared only with the people you specify and the way YOU see fit.

hmm... good, tell me more

With Sneer you can chat with your friends, share music among yourselves according to your musical taste and play games like go. Programmers can also create their own application and share it with their friends.
