Lewis and Clark hi hi Why they were sent Explore the west Background Info Meriwether Lewis Born: August 18, 1774 in Charlottesville, Virgina
Died: October 11, 1809 He was private secretary to President Thomas Jefferson He suffered from hpyochondria (depression disorder) which resulted in his dealth... he killed himself William Clark Born: August 1, 1770
Died: September 1, 1838 (From an Illness) Clark was in the army and fought in
Indian campaigns He was the governor of Missouri territory Hardships Poor hygienic and medical treatment Violent Storms Sickness Stress Why they are hero's Lewis and Clark are hero's because
it took alot to leave for four years on a journey
that they knew they might not come back from
Thank you for watching There Expedition In 1803 President Thomas Jefferson asked
Lewis to lead the expedition Lewis asked Clark to be co-commanding captain of the expedition In 1804 is when the expedition started In the summer and fall they paddled and pulled
up the Missouri River until they reached Fort Mandan
and stayed there for the winter In spring of 1805 they left and continued up the Missouri
In 1806 they arrived in present day Oregon They folowed almost the same way they came back to
St. Louis in 1806
