Joan Mitchell Life of Joan Mitchell Born on February 12, 1925 in Chicago Illinois Died on October 30, 1992 in France Mitchell Grew up in chicago with intrest in painting and poetry. Her mother(Marion) was a poet, writer, and editor
and her father(Herbert) was a doctor. She had one sister,
Joan was the youngest When she was younger her father would take her to the Art Institute of Chicago and other museums During Mitchell's life time in the 1930's President Herbert Hoover was in term. Also during her time the Star Spangled Banner became the United States official national anthem. Towards the end of her life time in the 1990's one of the world events was... Smoking on Domestic Airplane Flights is Banned Also towards the end of her life the Hubble Space Telescope was launched Joan Mitchell is an Abstract Painter, in her paintings she uses her sense of color, composition, and tension between bold and subtle elements. City Landscape 1955 When Mitchell Painted this she remembered the feeling of looking down from a building on a city.
