The sun gives life to Earth and without it Earth wouldn't have life.
The Sun is made up of 92.1% hydrogen and 7.8% helium.
Like Earth, the sun has layers.
The sun was born in a vast cloud of gas and dust around 5 billion years ago.
Sun spots are very hot. However, because they are slightly cooler than the surrounding surface of the Sun, they appear slightly darker in color.
The gravitational forces in sun spots are also stronger than the other hotter areas. Venus is the brightest planet in the solar system and can be seen even in daylight.
It is also known as the Morning Star
It has phases like the moon because the orbit of Venus is between the Earth and the Sun.
This planet was named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty.
Venus is covered by clouds of water vapor and sulfuric acid and the surface cannot be seen with an ordinary astronomy telescope. Earth is the only planet that has an atmosphere containing 21% oxygen.
Earth is the only planet that has liquid water on its surface.
Earth is also the only planet in the solar system that has life.
Earth is the only inner planet to have one large satellite, the moon.
Earth is very fragile.
Earth's surface is split into tectonic plates.
It has four layers, the crust, mantle, outer core, and the inner core. The Earth from space. Mars With no atmosphere, there is a temperature difference of about 600 degrees between the coldest spots and the hottest spots.
The side closest to the sun on Mercury has a temperature of 400 degrees Celsius or 750 degrees Fahrenheit.
However, the side facing away from the sun is very cold. With the temperature of -200 degrees Celsius or -328 degrees Fahrenheit.
Unlike Earth, Mercury has no moons.
Mercury has a surface that includes craters and is completely dry.
Mercury has no possibility of life. Phobos and Deimos are Mars' only moons, and are very tiny.
Mars is often called the red planet.
Much like Earth, Mars Has north and south polar ice caps.
Also like Earth, Mars has seasons too.
Its surface is covered with craters from objects like asteroids and meteorites hitting the planet.
Mars' surface also includes mountains and caverns like Earth. If you look at the top of mars you can see the north and south polar caps. By. Logan Machen and Destyni Weiss 3B The Moon The moon was made billions of years ago when a large object hit the Earth and blasted out rocks that formed together in orbit around the Earth. They cooled and became the moon.
The surface of the moon is covered with craters, pits, and maria.
Since the moon has no atmosphere, we can see the damage caused billions of years ago.
The moon has 8 phases then new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, and waning crescent.
From Earth we can only see one side of the moon, the other side is always turned away from us. Jupiter Jupiter is the most massive planet in our solar system.
Jupiter is also the fourth brightest object in the sky.
It has four large moons that were discovered by Galileo in 1610.
Jupiter's moons are known as Galilean moons.
On the surface of Jupiter The Great Red Spot, witch is a huge "storm" that has been observed from here on Earth for three hundred years, is located just below the South Equatorial Belt.
Jupiter is a very stormy planet. There are some storms found throughout the atmosphere, and most of the storms seem to never end Saturn is the furthest planet from Earth that can be seen without the help of a telescope.
In many ways, Saturn is similar to Jupiter, but it is much smaller.
Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar system, and is a gas giant like Jupiter.
With clouds of methane, hydrogen and helium, the sky turns into liquid until it becomes a giant ocean of liquid chemicals.
Saturn is the lease dense planet in our solar system.
Saturn spins so fast because it is such a light weight planet. Saturn is not perfectly round like most of the other planets. Saturn is wider in the middle and more narrow near its top and bottom much like Jupiter.
Saturn well-known for its rings. Although, it is not the only planet with rings. Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune also have rings.
Saturn has 7 rings, in all, around it.
The rings are not solid and are made up of particles of ice, dust and rocks. The rings are held in place around Saturn by the moons that also orbit Saturn.
The gravity of Saturn's moons cause the gaps that are seen in between the rings. Saturn Uranus Uranus spins on its side unlike the other planets in our solar system.
Uranus is made up of methane, hydrogen, and helium much like Saturn.
Uranus is an extremely cold planet.
It also has rings around it. The rings are made up of black dust particles and rocks.
The planets Uranus and Neptune are almost identical. Neptune north polar cap south polar cap Neptune has 6 rings that circle the planet.
Neptune has 13 moons.
Also, it is the third largest planet in our solar system.
On the surface of Neptune there is a large dark oval.This oval is known as the Great Dark Spot.
In Neptune's atmosphere, there is large white cloud that moves around the planet. The "scooting" of this cloud around Neptune has led to it's name "Scooter."
It has the highest winds out of all of the planets in our solar system. The Great Dark Spot
• Meteors are the white streaks across the sky that are sometimes call shooting stars.
Meteors are usually very small, and are harmless to Earth.
When a meteor shower happens, the Earth's orbit takes it through the orbital path of a comet that had left quite a bit of dust behind. When the dust hits the Earth's atmosphere is when the shower starts. Once in a great while a rock will be big enough to survive the atmosphere and cause a fireball that falls to Earth. These surviving pieces are called meteorites.
Small meteors only appear for a second or two.
Large meteors, however, are visible for a longer amount of time and usually appear brighter.
A meteor that glows brighter than usual is called a fireball.

• These “minor planets” are made of rock and metal.

• These are rocky, airless worlds are too small to be called planets.
• Many asteroids are made from larger asteroids hitting planets or each other.
• The asteroids that are closest to the Sun are mostly made up of carbon while the ones further away are made up of silicate rock.
